On June 17, police in Pennsylvania announced the tragic news that two Pennsylvania State Police Troopers were shot Saturday in Central Pennsylvania’s Juniata County, with one of the troopers dying from his injuries.  The second was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

According to the State Police, a man engaged troopers in Mifflintown Borough around 12:45 p.m. and shot one trooper who was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. After a search, the shooter was located in the area of Swamp Road and Baumgardner Drive in Walker Township, Juniata County, shortly before 3:00 p.m. Troopers exchanged gunfire with him.

In that exchange, the shooter and a trooper were both shot and killed.

Yesterday, law enforcement asked the public to avoid the area, as their investigation at the crime scene was still an active one. Police also said that there was no threat to the public and that the incident had been contained.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris went to the hospital where the wounded trooper was taken.

Of both troopers who were shot Saturday, Governor Shapiro said: “Each one put themselves on the line to protect their fellow troopers — and to protect their fellow Pennsylvanians.”  ~ Philadelphia Inquirer

Police reported that the names of the male subject and the involved troopers would be released at a later time.  For more on the story, see the video accompanying this article.
