Two Pennsylvania Troopers and a civilian killed overnight on I-95 in Philadelphia
Reports are coming in from multiple media outlets reporting that two Pennsylvania State Troopers and one male civilian were struck and killed on I-95 South in the area of milepost 18 near the Broad Street exit in Philadelphia City about 12:40 a.m. this morning. Pennsylvania State Police confirmed the deaths on their Facebook and Twitter accounts hours ago and said that more information would be forthcoming.
The troopers were trying to get the man who was walking on I-95 into their patrol SUV, state police said, according to NBC Philadelphia. A driver attempted to use the shoulder of the highway to get around the scene and struck all three of them, the news station reported. The impact sent them into the northbound lanes of I-95, police told NBC Philadelphia. ~ MSN
NJ.Com wrote that Channel 6 Action News also reported that a car struck and killed the troopers. The highway was closed in both directions, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf tweeted his condolences.
