University of Tampa student shot, killed getting into wrong car at end of the night
The early morning hours of Saturday, September 17 proved deadly for one unsuspecting University of Tampa (UT) student who had been out spending the evening celebrating turning 19.Â
At 1:20 a.m. on the 17th, officers with the Tampa PD were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Arch Street regarding an individual being shot. Police tried to render aid to the shooting victim, but when Tampa Fire Rescue personnel arrived – they pronounced the man dead on the scene.
As the investigation into the shooting death proceeded, Tampa Police detectives learned that the individual shot was a student currently attending the University of Tampa. According to witnesses, the young shooting victim was hanging out with friends on South Howard Avenue and had caught an Uber to his residence near the 1000 block of W. Arch Street just prior to the incident.
According to police, after getting out of his Uber, the student tried getting into the car of a man that was parked nearby.
The driver, who did not know the student or why he was forcing his way into his vehicle, shot the student, striking him in the upper body. The driver said he feared for his life.

Media outlets are reporting that Senfeld was celebrating his birthday with a night out of drinking, which may explain why he was inadvertently trying to get into a stranger’s car.

“The UT administration is deeply saddened to report that a UT student was killed early this morning near the intersection of W. Arch and N. Munro streets.
