Vero Beach man charged with attempted shooting murder at local hookah bar
At approximately 2 a.m. on Friday, November 5, deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Good Vibez Kava and Hookah Bar in Vero Beach, Florida, in response to a “shots fired” call.
After arriving at the scene, deputies spoke with two employees who said they were in the process of closing the business and getting ready to leave. Once in the parking lot, a man approached them and was told the business was closed. The male then displayed a firearm and fired at them before fleeing the scene.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division began working the incident. and soon identified the shooting suspect as 34-year-old Jacolby Dunbar, with a home address of Old Dixie Highway in Vero Beach.
Dunbar, a former employee of the establishment, has been involved in other disturbance related incidents during which he was issued a trespass warning and informed not to return by the owners. Dunbar, who is also a convicted felon, is currently on probation related to battery on a law enforcement officer, battery by strangulation (domestic violence), resisting arrest, and criminal mischief.
Hours later on Friday, Dunbar was taken into custody by the IRC SWAT team without incident.
Following his arrest, Dunbar was charged with two counts of attempted murder and trespass on property. As of this writing, he is currently incarcerated at the Indian River County Jail with no bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on November 9.
