Vero Beach man shoots two in random act of violence
On September 10 at approximately 4:00 a.m. in normally quiet Vero, Beach, Florida, police had to respond to the parking garage of the PARC 24 Building located at 445 24th Street in reference to a shooting. Once on the scene, officers found one person with a gunshot wound and another with injuries from glass fragments.
The male and female victims advised Officers that they were exiting the parking garage. The victims are both security guards that were leaving the building at the ends of their shift.
Both were in separate vehicles, when a white male suspect exited the stairwell of the parking garage and started shooting into their vehicles. Both victims were struck by the bullets. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The two victims were both transported to Lawnwood Hospital in Ft. Pierce with non- life-threatening injuries.
Detectives were able to retrieve video surveillance from the parking garage and was able to identify the shooter immediately. The shooting suspect was identified as 61-year-old Aaron Paul Bishop who lives in the 500 block of Royal Palm Boulevard in Vero Beach.
Based on the quick identification of Bishop, the Vero Beach Police Department Critical Response Team was activated and responded to his residence. One of our police negotiators made contact him by telephone. After about 15 minutes of phone conversation, Bishop exited his residence and was taken into custody.
Several blocks were blocked off during the arrest but have since been opened back up.
The shooter was transported to the Vero Beach Police Department where he was interviewed. Bishop was charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery, two counts of Shooting A Deadly Missile and still is in jail, being help with no bond.
Police say this was a random and isolated incident and that there are no known threats to the community.
WPTV reports that, according to police, Bishop has a lengthy criminal history and is suspected in another shooting in the same area. And that he currently lives next door to where the shooting took place.
