Video shows men breaking into Hialeah barber shop and burning it down with Molotov cocktails
One man was arrested and charged after he was seen on surveillance video breaking into a barber shop and then helping burn it down by hurling two Molotov cocktails at the business in Hialeah, Florida. Another guy, considered an accomplice, is on the run and still at large.
Prosecutors say 38-year-old Miguel Reyes Jr. used the explosive devices during a break-in at a property located at 60 W. 49th Street in Hialeah on Friday evening. Authorities say Reyes, with the help of an accomplice, threw two Molotov cocktails at the barbershop that burned down. Reyes appeared in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court on Saturday following his arrest. ~ y100 iHeart
On Sunday, police in Hialeah identified the second suspect in this arson case as Alberto Gonzalez. According to NBC News in Miami, Reyes Jr. and Gonzalez shattered the glass window of the front door of the Hialeah barber shop and then committed the arson with bthe use of the the Molotov Cocktails, causing more than $100,000 in damages.
Following his arrest, Reyes appeared in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court on Saturday and was charged with first-degree felony burglary, first-degree felony arson, and a separate charge of using an explosive device to cause disruption. At his court hearing, the Judge informed Reyes that his first-degree felony burglary charge could carry a maximum sentence of life behind bars.
Reyes was a former employee of the Barber Shop, and obviously a disgruntled one.
Surveillance video shows Reyes using a pipe wrench to smash the glass in the business’ front door while Gonzalez could be seen hurling a Molotov cocktail at the front of the building. Although the barber shop was a complete loss, the fire did not spread to any of the other businesses located at the strip mall.
CBS News Miami shared that the barber shop owner, Ariel Esquivel, is heartbroken over losing his business which he had only just recently purchased and quoted him as saying, “We feel awful. We’re all basically out of a job. Now, I suppose little by little we’ll get back on our feet. We’ll be alright.”
