Wanted Vero Beach fentanyl felon sniffed out by K-9, arrested hiding in closet under a blanket
On December 28, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) Street Crimes Unit located 32-year-old wanted felon, Justin Kalinowski, hiding in a Vero Beach home near the 1300 block of 26th Avenue SW. And deputies received an able assist from one of their fearless K-9 officers.
Officials had been hoping to catch up with the wanted Kalinowski and serve him with any number of felony warrants, including:
- FTA Possession of Fentanyl
- Possession of Fentanyl
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and
- Misdemeanor FTA for Driving Without a License.
Deputies called for him several times to vacate the residence and turn himself in, but he never responded to their requests. Deputies finally made entry into the home and deployed K-9 “Bane” who successfully located and apprehended Kalinowski who was hiding under a blanket inside a closet.
The Sheriff’s Office took the wanted fentanyl felon into custody and said that he’d be “starting the new year in the Indian River County Jail.”
And this wasn’t the Vero Beach man’s first encounter with Indian River County law enforcement. He was arrested on May 27, 2021, on charges of possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, according to Hometown News.
In 2019, police were searching for Kalinowski for failure to appear in court, possession of cocaine, warrants for grand theft, and uttering a forged bill, check or draft, according to TC Palm.
