Washington Nationals over St. Louis Cardinals in first game of NLCS
The St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Washington Nationals in last night’s Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. The final score was 2-0 favoring the Nats. Nats’ pitcher Anibal Sanchez came very close to posting the third no-hitter in postseason history.
Sanchez had a no-hitter going against the Cardinals and didn’t give up a hit until the eighth inning. With two outs to go in the eighth, Cardinals’ first-baseman and outfielder Jose Martinez lined a single to center.
The Nationals also received more clutch hitting from Howie Kendrick — he scored the first run after leading of the second inning with a double, then later plated Adam Eaton in the seventh with a single. ~ CBS Sports
