Wife arrested for killing 13-month-old daughter pins the abuse on her dead hubby
On October 7, ABC News reported that Mohammad Torabi, 31, jumped to his death from the 17th-story rooftop of a hotel in Manhattan. His body was found the following day “sprawled atop a third-floor air-conditioning unit at the Renaissance New York Hotel on East 57th Street,” according to The New York Post. Torabi was wanted by the NYPD for questioning in connection with the recent arrest of his wife Tina who was accused of beating the couple’s 13-month-old daughter to death while also severely beating the girl’s twin brother.
But now, officials are taking a different look at exactly which parent was responsible for severely beating the twin toddlers. In a jailhouse interview, Tina said it was her estranged husband Mohammad who abused the kids bad enough to kill 13-month-old, Elaina. According to an updated report from The New York Post:
“It just makes a lot more sense,” said an official at Administration for Children’s Services, which is looking into the Oct. 3 assault that left 1-year-old Elaina Torabi dead and her twin brother, Kian, seriously injured.
“Her beating the kids just doesn’t add up,” the official added. “Her past is about drugs — while his past is drugs and domestic abuse. This was a battered wife who looked to be trying to get her life back on track.”
During that interview when Tina told officials that her husband was responsible for the atrocities committed on the two babies, she also told the police that she was waiting for Mohammad to turn himself in to police and confess. She didn’t think he’d be hurling himself from the roof of a 17th story building in Manhattan.
Complicating matters though, is that Tina has given conflicting accounts of exactly what happened in her Queens home the night the children were beaten. Because she was untruthful in earlier stories she had told the police, the cops are now having trouble believing anything she says – even though ACS may be buying her latest story.
Police say that an earlier version of Elaina’s condition was based on the mother telling police that the baby girl had burned herself with milk. She also told police that she hadn’t seen her husband for more than a month. Regarding her pinning the blame on Mohammad, an October 8 report from Oxygen states that the police are not being swayed by “the drug-addicted mom’s attempt to pin all the blame on her hubby.”
“That would be the smartest thing to say,” a law enforcement source said. “But we have nothing to corroborate that at all.”
Police are also have trouble believing Tina due to a text message she sent Mohammad that reads, “gonna f–k up the boy” for crying on the same day the hell house was uncovered, according to The Post.
That boy, 13-month-old Kian, is in critical condition.
Tina Torabi, 30, was arrested last Wednesday after calling police to her home. When police arrived at Tina’s home in the Auburndale section of Queens, they discovered 13-month-old Elaina in the cellar. The child was unconscious, and her body covered in wounds and bruises. She later died from her injuries. The Post reported the NYPD as saying that both twin toddlers suffered “severe body trauma.”
