(Warning: disturbing content ahead)  On June 25, the Northern York County Regional Police Department (NYCRPD) in York County, Pennsylvania, announced that a second arrest has been made in regards to the murder of 67-year-old Lourdes Ramos Baez, who was killed in her Dover, Pennsylvania home on June 6.  The first arrest made in connection with her murder was her son-in-law, William Emilio Torres Gautier.  Shockingly, the second arrest was Gautier’s wife, the victim’s daughter, Johana Ramos.

Police say that Gautier and Ramos both took part in duct-taping the head and face of their victim, Baez, and brutally tortured and killed her.

Background: On June 6, the NYCRPD responded to the area of 79 South Main Street in Dover Borough for a report of a disturbance.  A neighbor reported that a female at the address had asked her to call police.

Upon their arrival, responding officers made contact with 42-year-old William Emilio Torres Gautier, as well as a female and two small children near the rear of the residence.  While speaking to Gautier, the female was observed to be signaling for help. That female was Johana Ramos, Gautier’s wife.

As officers attempted to speak to Ramos, Gautier intervened and pushed a section of wooden fence at officers, striking one of them. The officers took Gautier into custody after a brief struggle.

Ramos indicated that her mother was in the home and needed help.  Officers made entry to the home and found a 67-year-old female, Lourdes Ramos Baez, dead in an upstairs bedroom.

Gautier was taken to Central Booking. Due to his uncooperativeness, no booking photo could be obtained but a mugshot was later secured at the York County Jail. Gautier was arraigned on the following charges, and he is currently in York County Prison.

  • Criminal Homicide
  • Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officers
  • Terroristic Threats
  • Abuse of Corpse
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Mischief

The surprising and shocking update to this tale of murder came on June 23, when NYCRPD detectives arrested Johana Ramos, daughter of the victim, and charged her in connection with her mother’s homicide.  Police say that Johana Ramos participated in the murder and assisted Gautier with duct taping her mother’s head and face.

The 31-year-old Ramos was taken to central booking and charged with Criminal Homicide and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Homicide. When more details surrounding Baez’s homicide were released, we discovered that Baez was not only murdered, but that Gautier and Ramos thoroughly tortured the 67-year-old before killing her.

According to a copy of the probable cause affidavit obtained by the York Daily Record, police say that the victim’s body was lying face down and hidden beneath a pile of clothes and other debris on the floor of her bedroom. When the body was fully revealed, officers said that “duct tape covered her eyes and face” and that “coat hangers were wrapped around her neck.” Also, Baez’s body was covered with a white substance believed to be salt.

Law and Crime reported police as saying that the mother’s arms were tied behind her back, that she had been stabbed multiple times in the back with scissors, and that her right Achilles tendon had been sliced.

The York County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the Baez’s manner of death was due to homicide, with her cause of death to be from “blunt force head and neck injuries with strangulation.”

Ramos is currently being held in the York County Prison without bond.
