Amidst the backdrop of an ever-increasing number of anti-Asian hate crimes and physical assaults across the U.S., on April 20, a federal grand jury in Evansville, Indiana, returned a single-count indictment charging a woman with committing a hate crime for her racially motivated attack on a woman of Chinese descent.
The indictment returned by a federal grand jury alleges that on January 11, Billie R. Davis, 56, willfully caused bodily injury to the victim and attempted to do so using a knife, because of the victim’s race and national origin. The indictment also alleges that the offense included an attempt to kill the victim.
Davis, a resident of Bloomington, allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old Indiana University student multiple times in the head while the student was waiting for bus doors to open, according to Axios. There is video of the incident that police said depicted no interaction between Davis and the victim prior to the stabbing. “Davis then told police she had targeted the student because of their ethnicity, according to court documents filed after her arrest.”
Davis already faces state charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and battery by means of a deadly weapon, to which she has pleaded not guilty.

MSN shared that although the victim was stabbed seven times, she managed to survive that vicious attack. To learn more about the 18-year-old student from Carmel who was getting off the bus when she was attacked by Davis, who then simply walked away, see the video below.
