Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah.”  At yesterday’s DC Fandome Convention, which was conducted online and virtually thanks to the New Normal Pandemic Age of remote gatherings, the stars of the soon to be released “Wonder Woman 1984” film let loose with the new and official trailer for the next DC superhero film to hit the big screen.

Director Patty Jenkins was joined by Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal to discuss their upcoming follow-up to the 2017 megahit, answering questions about where they got the inspiration for the film’s ‘80s-era wardrobe, what their best memory was from the time on set and who would win in a tennis match between Wonder Woman and the Cheetah (that last one was asked by none other than tennis superstar and DC fan Venus Williams).

A standout moment in the panel came with the surprise appearance of Lynda Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the TV show that aired from 1975 to 1979. Wiig was especially thrilled to meet Carter, albeit virtually, gushing that as a kid she worshipped the show, dressed up as Wonder Woman for Halloween, and even wore Wonder Woman underoos. ~ Variety

The group also unveiled the trailer which provided a closer look into several key “Wonder Woman 1984” cinematic components, notably, the film’s two villains, Barbara Ann Minerva, a.k.a. Cheetah (Wiig), and Maxwell Lord (Pascal). Variety reported that Maxwell Lord, being able to  give people their deepest desires, has resurrected the character of Diana’s long lost WWI boyfriend  – Steve Trevor (Pine) – who as far as we know died a hero’s death in the first Wonder Woman flick.

The trailer also gave us our first good look at The Cheetah – and Wiig’s transformation – complete with tail and fur – into that evil character.

“Wonder Woman 1984” was originally slated for a May 2020 release; but thanks to COVID-19, the release date is now October 2, 2020.
