Zoinks! ‘Scooby-Doo’ live action series in production at Netflix

As the month of March was coming to a close, our favorite streaming service, aka Netflix, announced the exciting news that “Scooby-Doo,” one of the most recognizable animated characters of all time,is coming to Netflix as an all-new eight-episode live-action series. In the format of a prequel to the fan favorite show, this effort will uncover how everyone’s favorite mystery-solving gang, and their ever-lovin’ Great Dane, first teamed up to crack the haunting case that started it all.
Synopsis: Still based on the original characters created by Hanna-Barbera, this highly anticipated release will be reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and Scooby. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.
Quote from Greg Berlanti, Executive Producer Scooby-Doo: “One of my first and favorite jobs in Hollywood was sitting with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera while they signed animation cells. Josh and Scott and everyone at Midnight Radio have crafted a story that captures their amazing spirits and their genius creation. We are grateful to them and everyone at Warners and Netflix for the partnership in helping bring this iteration of Scooby-Doo to life!”
For more than 50 years, “Scooby-Doo” has been a pop culture powerhouse — three theatrical films, more than a dozen animated series, and nearly 40 animated home entertainment movies later, Mystery Inc. is stronger than ever. As one of the most recognizable and iconic franchises in entertainment, Scooby-Doo continues to thrill fans across generations.
The live-action “Scooby-Doo” series is officially in development at Netflix. A specific release date has not yet been announced, according to USA Today.
