Film ‘Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story’ coming, adding a smile to Oscar season
As the 2022-2023 Oscar Season starts to heat up, we’re excited to learn from writer / director Scott Fivelson that his award-winning film Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story, is preparing for a wide-ranging commercial release in the very near future. Fivelson shared with Ace News Today that his film about Oskar Knight, the most nominated director in Oscar history, was purposefully withheld from worldwide distribution when COVID-19 emerged, but that his camp is in talks now with U.S. and international distributors – as well as possible streaming platforms – to launch the film to be released to the masses.
“This unique Hollywood story is the life-and-times chronicle of one of our greatest directors, Oskar Knight.” ~IMBD
Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story is a comedy biopic about the man who many consider to be one of the greatest directors of our time. Written and directed by Fivelson, the film stars the late, great actor Lenny Von Dohlen (“Twin Peaks,” “Tender Mercies,” “Electric Dreams”) as the legendary director, Oskar Knight. Joining Von Dohlen is a veritable cavalcade of stars from the Golden and Silver Ages of Hollywood cinema, including Academy Award Winner Margaret O’Brien and the wonderful, now-departed Noel Neill, aka Lois Lane from TV’s “Superman.”
‘And offering the face of frank seriousness is everyone’s favorite “Timmy” from TV’s “Lassie,” Jon Provost. His recollection of how Lassie distrusted the lauded director is a hilarious few minutes of screen time that actually serves to humanize Knight.’ ~ Metropolis Planet
Also appearing in the film as themselves are actors Julianna Guill and David Suchet (Image credits: Scott Fivelson)
In its initial showing to Film Festivals across the land, Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story captured awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Song from a Feature Documentary and a Breakthrough Director Spotlight Award. Film buffs are looking forward to many Academy Award nominations for this film as the Oscar season progresses.
“… brings to mind such mockumentaries as All You Need is Cash (1979) and This is Spinal Tap (1984), while at the same time evoking such movies dealing with Old Hollywood as Sunset Boulevard (1950) and The Artist (2011). It follows Oskar Knight from his childhood in Germany to his early days in Hollywood to his rise to the top of the directing profession.” ~ See the complete review from Mercurie
Oskar Knight’s name is well known to students of film history who are the first to agree that his talents and works are right up there with the most iconic directors of all time like Chaplin, Huston and Hitchcock.
