A woman was arrested and charged in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday night after she reportedly threw a red liquid at a motorcade transporting Vice President Kamala Harris, who was visiting Phoenix at the time on a campaign stop. The incident went down approximately 6 p.m. near 7th Street and Alta Vista Road in Phoenix, according to Arizona’s Family News.

The woman, identified as 30-year-old Anasilvia Gomez-Zamora, was standing on the sidewalk when she threw the liquid, according to the Phoenix Police Department.  The woman told the officers that the motorcade was the target; but the red liquid she hurled instead landed on eight Phoenix police officers that were escorting the motorcade.

Gomez-Zamora is now looking at charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, endangerment and resisting arrest, according to Fox News.

“The motor officers were able to continue the motorcade as they progressed through their route. Other officers in the area were able to locate and arrest the woman responsible,” Sgt. Phil Krynsky told Fox 10.

Police said the liquid was determined to be non-hazardous.

Fox went on to report that Gomez-Zamora was booked into the Maricopa County Jail, but has since been released. The motive behind the woman’s actions remains unclear; but the incident highlights the challenges faced by security personnel in protecting high-profile figures during public events.

The Vice President was visiting Phoenix’s South Mountain Community Center on Friday where she spoke at a rally supporting reproductive freedom, according to The Arizona Republic. For  more on Anasilvia Gomez-Zamora throwing that red liquid at the Vice President’s Motorcade, see the video below.
