Vero Beach murder investigation: Search is on for shooter Matthew Allen Waggle

VERO BEACH, Fla. — A homicide investigation is underway in Vero Beach after a woman was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a roadway Sunday morning and later died at a local trauma center.
Indian River County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded around 8:41 a.m. Aug. 16 to a 911 call reporting an adult woman in the roadway near 501 1st Street. Deputies immediately began lifesaving measures before the victim was transported to a trauma center, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators have identified 33-year-old Matthew Allen Waggle as a person of interest and are actively searching for him. Sheriff Eric Flowers said investigators believe Waggle and the victim had some type of relationship and are examining whether domestic violence may have played a role in the shooting.
Authorities believe Waggle has left the Vero Beach area and have issued a nationwide “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) alert. His last known address was in Sebastian, Florida; and investigators believe he may be traveling by vehicle.
Sheriff Flowers urged the public not to approach Waggle if he is spotted, warning that investigators consider the situation serious because he could potentially harm himself or others. Anyone who sees him should call 911 immediately.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Detectives, crime-scene personnel and a domestic-violence investigator remain involved as authorities work to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, was in the area of 1st Street Sunday morning, or has information that could assist investigators is urged to contact the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers.
