Singer Keke Wyatt arrested in Georgia on violence charges

R&B singer Keke Wyatt was arrested in Georgia on Sept. 20 following an alleged confrontation; but conflicting accounts have emerged over exactly what charges she faces. Wyatt, 44, whose legal name is Ketara Wyatt Darring, was booked into the Henry County Jail and released two days later after posting a $1,050 bond, according to reports citing the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
A Henry County Sheriff’s Office representative told TMZ that Wyatt was booked on allegations involving terroristic threats, simple assault and cruelty to children. TMZ later reported that an arrest-warrant affidavit described an alleged confrontation during a custody exchange in which a witness claimed Wyatt displayed a handgun and made a threat. Wyatt reportedly acknowledged holding a firearm but denied pointing it from her vehicle or making threats.
However, Wyatt’s representatives strongly dispute the broader allegations.
In a statement posted to the singer’s Instagram on Sept. 25, her representatives said Henry County court documentation reflects only one charge — simple assault. They specifically denied that Wyatt was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, or cruelty to children.
The discrepancy has become a central part of the story. Public booking information has been reported as listing aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, and third-degree cruelty to children, while Wyatt’s representatives maintain that the court documentation they reviewed lists only simple assault. CBS News Atlanta also reported that the available booking information and Wyatt’s statement provide conflicting accounts.
Wyatt’s representatives have asked that the allegations involving children not be repeated as established facts, saying she intends to address the matter through the judicial process. They also said her scheduled performance commitments remain unchanged.
The arrest is not Wyatt’s first encounter with an assault case. In 2002, she faced a second-degree assault charge stemming from an incident involving her then-husband and manager, Rahmat Morton. That case was ultimately dismissed, and Wyatt later said she acted in self-defense.
Best known for early-2000s R&B collaborations with Avant, including “My First Love” and “Nothing in This World,” Wyatt also appeared on the reality series R&B Divas: Atlanta.
For now, the circumstances surrounding the Georgia incident remain contested, with law-enforcement accounts and Wyatt’s representatives offering different descriptions of the charges. The case is expected to proceed through the court system.
