Second ex-GOP senator found shot dead in their home this week
Following eerily close on the heels of former Arkansas State Senator Linda Collins-Smith being found shot dead in her home earlier this week, a second former GOP senator has now been reported as being found shot dead in his home. The two gruesome discoveries occurred within two days of one another. The Washington Examiner reported last night that “Police found former Oklahoma state Sen. Jonathan Nichols, 53, dead in his home Wednesday after receiving a call about an individual with a gunshot wound.”
On June 5 at approximately 8:44 p.m., the Norman Police Department responded to a report of an individual with a gunshot wound inside a residence in the 3900 block of Annalane Drive. Upon arrival, officers located one adult male, later identified as 53-year-old Jonathan Nichols, deceased inside the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.
Nichols was the Republican Senator from Oklahoma from 2000 to 2012. Following his senatorial tenure, he went on to work in the Oklahoma State House and the University of Oklahoma.
Investigators are currently working with the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the former senator’s exact cause and manner of death. No one has yet to be named as a suspect or arrested for Nichols’ apparent murder.
Nichols is survived by a wife and two daughters.
Officials say that Nichols was found shot dead in his Norman, Oklahoma, home on Wednesday. Former Senator Collins-Smith was found shot dead in her Pocahontas, Arkansas, home just days earlier. “It wasn’t immediately clear how long Collins-Smith had been dead when her body was found, but she was said to be wrapped in some sort of blanket and her body had begun to decompose,” according to The Ark Times.
