Baltimore Police arrest Annapolis man in Southwest District shooting

Baltimore police have arrested a 39-year-old Annapolis man in connection with a July shooting that left a 53-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. Johnnie Hawkins was arrested August 7 in Annapolis by Baltimore Police Department Warrant Apprehension detectives. He was subsequently transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with attempted murder and assault.
The charges stem from a shooting reported around 10:29 p.m. on July 19 in the 2600 block of West Lexington Street in Baltimore’s Southwest District. When officers arrived, they found the 53-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Police said the injury was not life-threatening, and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Southwest District shooting detectives investigated the case and ultimately identified Hawkins as a suspect. Police have not released additional details about what led to the shooting or a possible motive.
