Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova complete historic career slam win with dramatic US Open victory
NEW YORK — Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova have finally conquered the US Open. The No. 1 seeds rallied from a first-set defeat Friday, Sept. 11, to beat unseeded Americans Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 in the women’s doubles final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The victory gave Townsend and Siniakova the one major doubles title missing from their collection — completing a career Grand Slam as a team. The pair previously won Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025 and the French Open earlier this year.
For Townsend, the triumph was particularly meaningful. The Chicago native had reached the US Open doubles final in 2025 with Siniakova and had also made deep runs at Flushing Meadows in previous years. This time, she left the court with the championship trophy.
The match appeared to be slipping away early. Krueger and Montgomery raced to a 3-0 lead and eventually captured the opening set 7-5 after Siniakova double-faulted three times while serving at 5-6.
But the top-seeded team responded with a stunning turnaround.
Townsend and Siniakova reeled off 10 consecutive points during the second set and overwhelmed their opponents 6-0 in just 24 minutes. They continued their surge in the deciding set, winning long, pressure-filled rallies and breaking Krueger’s serve after a marathon game.
The final game provided one last dose of drama. Siniakova struggled to close out the championship and the game went to five deuces, but the pair saved five break points before finally securing the title.
Townsend dropped to her knees after the final point before celebrating with Siniakova.
The championship also marked Townsend’s fourth Grand Slam doubles title and made her the first American woman to win the US Open women’s doubles championship since Coco Vandeweghe in 2018.
Siniakova, meanwhile, added another major trophy to an already remarkable doubles résumé. She has won Grand Slam titles with Barbora Krejcikova and Coco Gauff in addition to her championships with Townsend.
The runners-up, Krueger and Montgomery, also produced an impressive run. The American wild-card pairing reunited after previously winning the US Open girls’ doubles title in 2021 and defeated players from both halves of the previous year’s defending-champion team on their way to the final.
For Townsend, however, the night belonged to a long-awaited breakthrough on her home court.
As she celebrated with Siniakova, Townsend summed up the moment with a line that perfectly captured the turnaround: “If flipping the script had a face, you’d see my face.”
