Rising golf star Jessica Bang dies suddenly at 18

The Australian golf world is mourning the loss of Jessica Bang, an 18-year-old rookie professional whose promising career was tragically cut short after a sudden brain hemorrhage.
Bang collapsed Aug. 1 while preparing in Bangkok, Thailand, for the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament. She was rushed to Synphaet Ramintra Hospital, where doctors performed emergency brain surgery after discovering the hemorrhage. She was later placed on life support in intensive care.
Bang died at the Bangkok hospital on Aug. 13 at 7:20 a.m. local time, according to an update posted by her cousins, Summer and Amelia, on the family’s GoFundMe campaign.
The teenager had already made a remarkable start to her professional golf journey. After earning her place through qualifying school in late 2025, Bang won the Women’s New South Wales Open Regional Qualifying Event in February 2026, doing so in only her fifth professional start. Her talent and determination had earned her the affectionate nickname “Rookie Bang.”
The WPGA Tour of Australasia said the Australian golf community was “deeply saddened” by her death, describing Bang as an outstanding young talent who had made a significant impression during her brief time on tour.
Her family said they want Bang to be remembered not only for her accomplishments on the golf course, but also for her cheerful personality, sense of humor, passion and dedication. “We are truly heartbroken by this news,” her cousins wrote, while expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support shown to Jessica and her family.
Funds raised through the GoFundMe campaign will now be given to Bang’s parents to help with the substantial medical expenses resulting from her treatment in Thailand.
For a young athlete whose professional journey had only just begun, Jessica Bang leaves behind a legacy of promise, determination and a love of golf that made an unforgettable impression in far too short a time.
