USDA recalls more than 1,500 pounds of pork over Listeria risk
More than 1,500 pounds of imported ready-to-eat pork products are being recalled after routine testing found Listeria monocytogenes in a sample of the dry-cured meat, federal food safety officials announced Sept. 6.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said Prime Line Distributors Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Ferrarini USA Inc. of Hoboken, New Jersey, are recalling approximately 1,513 pounds of guanciale, an Italian-style dry-cured pork jowl.
The recalled products were produced in Italy on May 21, 2026, by Bome SRL and imported into the United States during July. The products were distributed to food-service and retail locations in Florida, while Ferrarini products were also shipped to distributors and food-service locations in:
- California,
- Idaho,
- Illinois,
- Michigan,
- New Jersey,
- New York, and
- Texas.
Consumers should look for products bearing lot number 263311US, a “Best If Use By” date of May 16, 2027, and Italian establishment number IT 1937 L CE.
The recall is classified as Class I, the USDA’s most serious recall category, meaning consumption of the affected products could potentially cause serious health consequences or death.
Listeria infection, known as listeriosis, can be particularly dangerous for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion and loss of balance. In severe cases, the infection can become life-threatening.
So far, no confirmed illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled pork.
The FSIS is urging retailers and food-service operations not to sell or serve the products. Consumers who have the recalled guanciale should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
